This month, as temperatures begin to drop and winter approaches, I thought I’d share with you some good news we have regarding efforts to help the region’s homeless.
Since becoming Mayor, helping our regions homeless was one of my top priorities. I'm pleased that progress is continuing to be made on this issue so that the most vulnerable people in our region can access support.
Progress is continuing to be made on tackling homelessness, including for the most vulnerable. I have championed a “Housing First” approach, which prioritises getting people into a home and then helping them with their other problems.
Mayor Andy Street has today called on the Government to extend the funding for the Housing First scheme which has successfully reduced the number of rough sleepers on the streets of the West Midlands.
West Midlands Mayor Andy Street says Solihull is leading the way in dealing with homelessness thanks to a pioneering scheme which is ensuring donations from kind locals make a real difference in the borough.
Last night I attended The Growing Project's Harvest Dinner, to celebrate the first harvest from the community project in Birmingham. Thanks to Grand Union, St Anne's Accommodation ,Crisis , SIFA Fireside and The Warehouse Cafe for creating such a great community action project ??
Homelessness remains an incredibly complex issue and we must all work together to try and tackle it. That's why I set up the Homelessness Taskforce, to put forward a plan to add value to the work the region is already doing to address the problem.
