About Andy Street

Andy Street is the current Mayor of the West Midlands. Andy was elected as the first Mayor of the West Midlands in May 2017, before being re-elected to serve a second term as Mayor in May 2021.

Before being elected to office, Andy served as the Managing Director of John Lewis and the chair of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, experiences that underpin his business-like approach to the Mayoral position.

As Mayor, Andy’s focus has been to create jobs, improve skills and opportunities for residents, upgrade the transport network and provide more homes in the West Midlands focusing on brownfield sites first.

Since 2017, Andy has brought in an additional £10 billion of Government investment across transport, housing, and skills. That’s new Metro routes and train stations, a UK-leading doubling of house building, and a step change in training opportunities. His period has also seen record private sector inward investment, and 100,000 new jobs post-Covid - all without introducing a Mayoral tax.

Andy Street above all is a proud champion of the region’s interests, promoting pride in the West Midlands and all of its communities. He and colleagues delivered the best ever Commonwealth Games and fought hard to convince the Government to retain £70 million of underspend for regional causes. He was instrumental in the deal to bring Coventry City Football Club back home to Coventry, and held the owners of the Crooked House to account after its unlawful demolition.

He continues to prioritise all parts of our region for investment, this includes: the regeneration of Dudley town centre, new train stations in Walsall, the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro line, the revamp of Sutton town centre, the full scale regeneration of Coventry city centre, and the rebirth of Longbridge.

“As the Mayor, I am honoured to represent the West Midlands and will continue to strive for a better future for the region and its residents.”
